Description:
Zinc dust is a pure metal powder, which is grey in colour and is produced by condensation of purified zinc vapors. The particle shape is spherical (see the picture). Zinc dust is suitable for use in many binder formulations for the manufacture of zinc primers and shop primers, for example inorganic ethyl silicate and epoxy primers.
CAS No: 7440-66-6
Chemical Formula: Zn

SPECIALITY
PARTICLE SIZE
Particle diameter is determined by a standard test on all batches, using the Fisher Sub Sieve Sizer (air permeability method) which gives the average particle size. On request we can also supply the particle size distribution. We have 4 grades according to average particle size.
Particle Shape
Zinc Dust supplied by us has the advantage of its spherical particle shape. Spherical shape Zinc Dust is produced by handful of companies & we are privileged to be its supplier. Use of our Zinc Dust in Zinc rich primer is advantageous as it spherical particle shape avoids blockage of spray gun enabling standard coating on the substrates which increases the life of the coating & also increases its anti corrosive property.
ZINC RICH PAINT
Zinc powder is used in zinc rich paint to protect steel surfaces from corrosion. Zinc-rich paint is an essential component of most heavy duty coatings, as used in the protection of major structures such as offshore oil rigs, steel bridges, petrochemical and powder industries. Other applications include the painting of sea containers and in the construction and maintenance of ships and marine equipment.
MECHANICAL PLATING
Zinc dust is extensively used in mechanical plating / galvanizing, whereby small steel parts (screws, fasteners, rivets, bolts) are coated with a uniform layer of zinc, providing enhanced corrosion protection without the introduction of Hydrogen embrittlement. Sherardizing is an application to put a zinc coating on small steel parts, this application is similar to Mechanical Plating but applies at higher temperature (380-450°C).
CHEMICAL APPLICATIONS
Zinc Powders are used in many chemical applications like Organo zinc in pharma, agro-chemistry and life-science applications, Recovery of gold & silver and PGM group metals (Merrill Crowe Process), Production of sodium or zinc hydrosulfite and of formaldehyde sulfoxylate, powerful reducing agents used for the bleaching of paper, textile or kaolin, Purification of leach solutions for the zinc metal production.
